Women’s History Month Highlight: Danielle Torrez
Women’s History Month Highlight: Danielle Torrez
Happy Women’s History Month! Every year, March is designated to honor women’s contributions to American history throughout the years.
In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re sharing stories of our Titus teammates who are promoting excellence in our operations and inspiring other women to follow in their steps.
Today we are highlighting our Senior Director of Marketing, Danielle Torrez. In her role at Titus Talent Strategies, she leads a team of creatives, content writers, data analysts, event specialists, and digital marketers, and she does it all with grace. She brings so much to Titus, and we are proud to have her as the first African American on our Titus Talent Senior Leadership team.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
Growing up, my South African Grandmother would show me old photos and news articles of noteworthy women and the things they accomplished in the world. Back then, most of my schoolmates had no knowledge of people like Sarah Guppy, C.J. Walker, or Katherine Johnson. It was like a secret only I knew. To me, Women’s History Month is a moment to shout these incredible stories from rooftops and bring attention to the many women who have changed this world for the better. It is also a great moment to bring equity and information to women with dreams and talents, but who may need assistance to realize their full potential.
What can women in leadership like you do to embrace equity and empower the next generation of women in the workplace?
I think mentorship is invaluable. I’ve had amazing women take me under their wing and teach me in all areas of life – business, marketing, motherhood, and spirituality. Very little of what I have learned or accomplished has been on my own merit. I appreciate these women and always strive to model what they did for me to the next generation of women in my sphere of influence.
Who are the most influential women in your personal life?
My mom taught me how to pray and centered me spiritually, which I have found to be the foundation of my life. She continues to remind me I come from a long line of unstoppable, ambitious, and world-changing women, and that gives me the courage to dream big and run after my goals!
I was mentored in business by a woman named Debby Berry. She was a quick-witted, larger-than-life, extravagant human being who naturally took the top leadership spot in every room she walked into. Although she passed away a few years ago, she was a wonder to behold and taught me how to make deals, think strategically, and live large and unapologetically.
My life mentor is a singer and pastor named Debbie Winans Lowe. Above all, she has taught me wisdom and grace. Any good leadership traits I exhibit come from following and mirroring her leadership.
What female public figure, past or present, inspires you and why?
I’m really inspired by Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx. She had a great idea, fought for it, saw it through to creation, and marketed the heck out of it! She continues to find new ways to tap into new markets with authenticity and stays true to herself and the brand she’s built.
What piece of advice would you give to women finding their way in the workplace/leadership role?
I would encourage women to increase and add to their skill sets, and to focus on excellence.
Statistically, women feel we have to meet 100% of job requirements in order to raise our hands for new opportunities. To me, instead of trying to change that statistic, I say to add to your skill set so you can raise your hand for any opportunity with confidence! If you are excellent at your job, start thinking about what your boss does daily and take some tasks off their plate. This is a quick way to grow your skill set and make yourself the next logical person in line for a leadership role.
At Titus Talent Strategies, we are surrounded by an incredible team of powerful women. Stay tuned throughout the month for more highlights of our Titus women.
